Description:
A trout habitat enhancement project was completed on this section of Three Channel Spring Creek in the 1990s. Due to a lack of flushing flows, constructed pools and spawning areas were not refreshed and degraded by silt accumulation. Pool and spawning habitat enhancement features were designed in areas where velocities were identified that could maintain depths and clean gravels. Excessive stream widths were decreased using in-stream vegetation and a constructed island was replaced by a series of rock weir structures planted with wetland vegetation. 19 pools were excavated, 8 spawning beds were constructed and 19 pieces of large woody debris were installed to improve scour, aeration and in-stream cover. By the following summer cutthroat trout were observed utilizing the majority of the constructed habitats.
